Kearsneys men got off to a winning start in defence of their Dover league title they won last year, against Betteshanger B.C. At home the triple made up of our youngest member, making his Dover league debut, Tom Blackwell, Muzz Law and John Broom (skip) had a convincing win over the Betteshanger triple skipped by Barry Shooter, by 26 shots to 9. Our other triple playing at home of Roger Gambrill, Paul Smith & Paul Cook (skip) went down 11 -16 to Betteshangers triple skipped by Arthur Hockley. Away our triple of Keith Hughes, Patrick Simmons & Malcolm Deakin (skip) lost 13 - 20 to Betteshangers triple skipped by John Phoenix. Kearsneys other triple at Betteshanger of Allen Hare, Keith Howe & Fred Pontin (skip) secured a narrow win by 18 shots to 14 over John Browns triple. With 2 wins each Kearsney secured 4 rink points and with a shot advantage of 68 to 59 in our favour we also took the 4 match points for an 8 points to 4 points win overall. Top Club Fixtures

Both the men and ladies of Kearsney are due to play in the National Top Club competitions in the next few days. The men will take on Canterbury 'B' in the competitions 1st round after defeating Aylesham & Snowdown B.C. 4-1 in a preliminary round. The match will be played away against Canterbury at 10am on Sunday 20th May. The winners of the mens match will play away to either Gateway or Victoria Park in the 2nd round. Meanwhile Kearsney ladies will play host in the 2nd round to Lenham ladies in their version of the Top Club on Monday evening 21st May at 6pm. The winners of the ladies match will be at home to either Herne Bay or Ashford Rail in the 3rd round of the competition.
Tony Allcock Trophy

Kearsney lost to their near neighbours, Gateway B.C., in the 1st round of the National Tony Allcock Trophy last night (15th May). The competition is played by 2 mixed rinks from each club by members over 60. Our rink of Keith Hughes, Pat Thompson, Sheila Swinerd & Dave Hunter went down by 10 shots 13-23 to Gateways rink of Janet Hudson, Christine Bessent, Malcolm Bessent & Dave Hudson. Kearsneys four of Freda Smith, Brenda Law, Muzz Law and John Broom had a close match losing by just 2 shots 17-19 after 20 ends before conceding the match to Gateways Sandra Smith, Sue Scott, Bob Scott & Ken Fox. The overall combined score being Kearsney 30 shots and Gateway 42 shots. Many thanks to all the Kearsney members that came out to support the team, and good luck to Gateway for the rest of the competition.
National Double Fours

Kearsney bowed out in the 1st round of the National Double Fours to a very strong Sandwich team last night (14th May). Our rink of Alan Hare, Paul Smith, Keith Howe and Fred Pontin (Skip) got off to the worst possible start dropping a 5 and a 6 on the first two ends to go 11-0 down, they were playing against Mark McCaughan, John Speers, Dave Holmes and Gordon Charlton (Skip). Eventually the Sandwich rink ran out winners by 31 shots to 14. Kearsneys other four fared a little better, Keith Hughes, Malcolm Deakin, Muzz Law and John Broom (Skip) were against the Sandwich rink of Kieran Moss, Mick Hommersham, Mick Arnold and Shaun McCaughan (Skip). After 7 ends the scores were tied at 5 shots apiece and after a good run at 12 ends the Kearsney quartet were 12 shots to 6 up. But after winning the 13th end with a single Sandwich lengthened the Jack and won the remaining ends to win by 24 shots to 12. The match was conceded after 19 ends. Kearsney now wish Sandwich all the best for their next round of the competition.
Wear Bay match CANCELLED

The Clubs scheduled friendly match away at Wear Bay B.C. for Saturday 19th May has been CANCELLED due to the Royal Wedding being shown live on TV. It is hoped that the match can be rearranged later in the season.
