Kearsney bowed out in the 1st round of the National Double Fours to a very strong Sandwich team last night (14th May). Our rink of Alan Hare, Paul Smith, Keith Howe and Fred Pontin (Skip) got off to the worst possible start dropping a 5 and a 6 on the first two ends to go 11-0 down, they were playing against Mark McCaughan, John Speers, Dave Holmes and Gordon Charlton (Skip). Eventually the Sandwich rink ran out winners by 31 shots to 14. Kearsneys other four fared a little better, Keith Hughes, Malcolm Deakin, Muzz Law and John Broom (Skip) were against the Sandwich rink of Kieran Moss, Mick Hommersham, Mick Arnold and Shaun McCaughan (Skip). After 7 ends the scores were tied at 5 shots apiece and after a good run at 12 ends the Kearsney quartet were 12 shots to 6 up. But after winning the 13th end with a single Sandwich lengthened the Jack and won the remaining ends to win by 24 shots to 12. The match was conceded after 19 ends. Kearsney now wish Sandwich all the best for their next round of the competition.
