Forty-two bowlers descended on Kearsney on Thursday afternoon (24th August) to take part in the Dover & Districts Mens Bowling Leagues annual presentation match. Fourteen triples, one from each league club, and two from Kearsney, played 3 matches each of 7 ends against different opposition with 2 points for a win and 1 point for a drawn game. After the completion of the 3 games the home team of John Broom (skip), Muzz Law & Alan Hare came out on top unbeaten with 6 points and a shots score of 45 for and 3 against. Kearsney were closely followed by the triple representing Aylesham & Snowdown B.C., skipped by Les Hethrington, also on 6 points with a shots score of 34 for and 3 against. The consolation prize also went to Kearsney with their second team of Keith Howe (skip), JJ Smith & Keith Hughes failing to win any of their games and a shots score of 3 for and 42 against! At the conclusion of the match the Ladies of Kearsney provided all the competitors with a splendid meal, thank you Ladies, and not forgetting Phil Battershill our hard working barman for the day! After the meal Graham Pay, Secretary of the Dover & District League presented Dave Gavin, Mens Captain of Kearsney B.C. with the winners league trophy and pennant, this is the first time Kearsney have won the league since 1983. The runners up pennant was presented to the Captain of Sandwich B.C., last years winners. A good day was had by all. See PHOTOS for more pictures.
Dover League v Sandwich
Thursday 17th August 2017 10:30pm
At last! Kearsney have won the mens Dover League. Our last league match was against last years winners, and the current unbeaten leaders of the Dover League, Sandwich B.C. Sandwich were 4 points ahead of Kearsney going into the game, leaving Kearsney needing at least 9 points from the possible 12 to win the league title. Well Kearsney went 1 point better and claimed 10 of the 12 points to win what was an unforgettable victory. At home we had both triples winning, Dave Hunter (Skip), Keith Howe & Keith Hughes winning 23 - 16 and Steve Smith (Skip), Fred Pontin & Paul Smith coming out on top by 19 shots to 17. Away both Kearsney rinks were down at the halfway stage of their games but Malcolm Deakin (Skip) , Patrick Simmons & Roger Gambrill fought back well and went into the last end all square at 15 all. The Sandwich triple skipped by Bradley Drake eventually scoring a single on the 18th end to win by the narrowest of margins 15 - 16. So now it was all down to the result of our other away triple of John Broom (Skip), Muzz Law & Alan Hare. With a win needed to secure the league Kearsney got off to the worst possible start against a strong Sandwich triple of Adam Evans, Mark McCaughan and their skip Kieran Moss. After 11 ends Kearsney were trailing Sandwich by 10 shots, at 4 - 14 down. However a spirited fight back by our triple over the last 7 ends saw our triple winning all the remaining ends picking up 22 shots without reply to win the game 26 - 14. A fantastic night of bowls by Kearsney and a big WELL DONE to ALL Kearsney players that have represented the Club this season. Our win by 10 points to 2 gives Kearsney a total of 101 points to 97 for Sandwich. See Downloads for Final Dover League Table.
Dover League v Victoria Park B.C.
Friday 11th August 2017 4:45pm
In our penultimate match of the season Kearsney took on Victoria Park B.C. and came away with a 20 shot overall victory at 83 shots to 63 shots, giving us 8 points to Victoria Parks 4 points. At home we had 1 win and 1 loss, the triple of Steve Smith (Skip), Fred Pontin & Roger Gambrill recording an excellent win by 25 shots to 8 against the Victoria Park triple skipped by Eddie Pugh, not so fortunate was our triple of Dave Hunter (Skip), Keith Howe (after 14 ends George Devine sub) & Keith Hughes who went down by 14 shots to 30 to the triple skipped by Vic Pidduck. Away there was a big win by our triple of John Broom (Skip), Muzz Law & Alan Hare of 29 shot to 9 over Victoria Parks triple skipped by Clive Bruce, whilst our other triple of Paul Cook (Skip), Paul Smith & Malcolm Deakin suffered a narrow defeat by just 1 shot, 15 - 16 to the triple skipped by Rob Cullen. This win leaves us in second place to Sandwich B.C., who we face next Thursday in the last match of the season. Kearsney now 4 points behind Sandwich will need at least 9 points out of the 12 points on offer to win the league, a difficult task but at least the outcome of the league rests in our own hands. Sandwich remain unbeaten so far in the league this year, winning all of their 10 games to date. Second place not yet secure as Aylesham B.C. are just 7 points behind us, also with 1 game to play next week. See DOWNLOADS for latest League Table.
